Safesearch, a Manpower Group Company has been retained by Victoria International Container Terminal to search for their next Health & Safety Advisor in Port Melbourne, Victoria.

The Role:

Health & Safety Advisor, Port Melbourne Victoria

  • At least 5 years Safety HSE Advisor experience across high-risk vertical sectors such as Logistics| Transport| Shipping | Construction or similar.

About this Role:

  • The key role of the HSE Advisor is to provide advice, training, consultation, monitoring and governance, to support stakeholders and ensure all relevant WHS legislation, company policies and procedures are implemented and effective. This role provides advice to management and all levels of employees.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide HSE support to the Management team as when directed by the HSE Manager.
  • Be a contact point for workforce for HSE Issues.
  • Deliver identified and agreed components of the Workplace Training and Development Program.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety standards, legislation and other business needs with relation to training and high-risk licenses applicable to the business.
  • Complete site safety audits and inspections.
  • Monitor daily site tasks, complete hazard assessments, and determine ways of reducing risks.
  • Review all HSE training materials
  • Assist in safety audits, as required
  • Assist with the review and analysis of HSE performance data with a view to identifying trends and activities for improvement.
  • Facilitate and lead in Incident investigation
  • Assist with risk management support, such as ad hoc or scheduled risk assessments as and when identified as a priority support.

  • Promote the HSE Management systems and train staff in its content and implementation.
  • Facilitate and lead Risk Assessments in accordance with the site schedule
  • Provide direct subcontractor HSE support and advice with regards to JSEA registers and reviews of risk assessments.
  • Review contractor management safety plans to ensure compliance is maintained. Areas of non-conformity to be addressed and rectified
  • Assist Operational Managers with the implementation of site based HSE improvement programs or campaigns.
  • Assist in the preparation of the reporting as required.
  • Monitor activities to evaluate compliance with the HSE Management Plan and seek areas of improvement.
  • Produce safety alerts and toolbox talks, as required.
  • Proactively respond to HSE issues, ensuring investigations are completed in a timely manner.
  • Assist the business in the Identification and implementation of improvement initiatives, including improvements to the business's HSE system.
  • Be a point of escalation and have information on all training coordination tasks undertaken by the Training Coordinator.
  • Be a point of escalation and have information on the Return-to-Work program undertaken by the RTW Coordinator for workers involved in RTW plans and Work Cover claims.


Qualifications / Experience:

  • Diploma in Health & Safety (mandatory)
  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (nice to have)
  • ICAM Lead Investigator (mandatory)
  • Construction White Card (mandatory)
  • First Aid Certificate
  • 5-7 years of experience as a HSE professional, typically in a high-risk industry (mandatory)
  • Proven ability to facilitate and manage projects.
  • Proven ability to establish, and work, within strict timelines.
  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with a diverse group of staff.
  • Ability to present and communicate HSE matters to executives and senior management.
  • Experience at leading and investigating incidents, accidents, near misses.
  • Competent at Microsoft applications, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Experience in delivering training / skills databases.



Desirable certifications/licenses:

  • Current holder of / or able to achieve - Certified Auditor for Quality, Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
  • High risk trained and/or licenses e.g., Forklift, dogging, rigging, working at heights.
